A step by step process for choosing your engagement ring (Part 1 of 2)

Finding that perfect engagement ring is a daunting process for any man or woman.  For the man, the pressure is on to pick the right one, the one that his fiancée can show off to all her family and friends. For the woman, it’s all about picking the ring that lets her ‘stand out from crowd’, a ring that is unlike any other. So to help you, we’ve put together a step by step process that will ensure you cover all the pertinent points when choosing that perfect engagement ring.

 1. The Types of Diamond Engagement Rings…

One of the best options for an engagement ring would be solitaire. There are many different variations when it comes to the solitaire, however, the most common are the four-prong and the six-prong solitaire settings.  There is also a setting that consists of three stones which can come in many different shapes and sizes. Your setting can be hand crafted with white gold, yellow gold or platinum.

2. The Quality is Important…

Yes, the price on that ring is important, but that’s not the only thing that is important. The quality of the engagement ring is also important – from the band to the stone. You should always make sure that you are getting what you paid for. In saying that, ensure you have researched the cut, colour, clarity and carat of diamonds.

 3. Take the Preferences of the Girl in Mind…

When it comes to choosing out that perfect ring, you will also need to take your partners preferences into consideration. Many women do not like the traditional solitaire. You will need to know your partners personality in order to know what her preferences are.

Feel free to ask her what she likes. Tell her that you are trying to help your friend pick a ring out and would like her opinion on it.

4. How Much are You Able to Spend…

This should actually be listed as the very first one, because you will need to know how much you are able to spend before you do anything else. During this time, you should realise that you are not only paying for the wedding, but the honeymoon as well. You don’t want to go into debt over a ring. This should be a process that you put a lot of thought into.

5. Find a Jeweller that you can trust…

Don’t just choose any jeweller, find a jeweller that you can trust, who is reputable and with enough industry experience to help you make the right choice. If you have never been to a jeweller, then seek advice from your friends and family members.

6. Buying a Ring on the Internet…

Buying a ring on the Internet has many risks involved, such as, is the ring you are buying certified? Obviously, buying a ring from a reputable jeweller will allow you to ‘touch and feel’ the ring and ensure you are getting what you have paid for.
